"Foo Fighters" es el primer álbum en la discografía de Foo Fighters, la banda estadounidense de rock liderada por Dave Grohl, antiguo miembro de Nirvana. Lanzado al mercado el 4 de julio de 1995 por los sellos Roswell y Capitol Records, fue producido por Barret Jones y el propio Grohl.
Durante su paso por Nirvana, Dave Grohl aprendió mucho sobre el aspecto compositivo de las canciones, Así, comenzó a escribir sus propios temas, aunque por respeto a su banda, sólo publicó un álbum de maquetas titulado "Pocketwatch" (1992), firmado bajo el seudónimo de Late!.
Grohl continuó escribiendo canciones pero el repentino suicidio de Kurt Cobain, le sumió en un estado depresivo que le impidió durante una buena temporada coger ningún instrumento.
Tras participar con una banda en un evento de la MTV, comenzó a coger aire y pensó que con el material que tenía podría crear su propio proyecto musical. Fue así como, decidido a resurgir, se encerró en los estudios Robert Lang de Seattle junto al productor Barret Jones, quien ya colaboró con el músico en "Pocketwatch".
Solos los dos, en el estudio, grabaron íntegramente el álbum en octubre de 1994, sin ayuda de músicos de sesión ni más apoyo. Según reconoció posteriormente Grohl, era una forma de relajarse y olvidarse de la muerte de su antiguo compañero en Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, cuya fallecimiento le afectó profundamente.
Sólo después de terminar las grabaciones y de presentar el álbum a las discográficas firmando como Foo Fighters, Grohl reunió un grupo de músicos para tocar en vivo en largas giras promocionales.
La mayoría de las canciones del álbum fueron escritas en su época de Nirvana y solamente "This Is a Call", "I'll Stick Around", "X-Static" y "Wattershed" fueron escritas ex profeso para el álbum.
Las críticas iniciales a este primer álbum de Foo Fighters fueron muy positivas, alabando la composición de los temas y el estilo alternativo y post-grunge.
A nivel comercial, el disco fue también un éxito entre el público, debutando en el puesto 23 de la lista Billboard 200 en Estados Unidos y en el tercer puesto en Reino Unido. A los seis meses ya había conseguido vender un millón de copias sólo en Estados Unidos y dos millones a nivel mundial.
Los cinco sencillos extraídos del álbum, "Exhausted", "This Is a Call", "I'll Stick Around", "For All the Cows" y "Big Me" ayudaron sin duda de manera importante a dar a conocer este álbum debut de Foo Fighters.
