El primer álbum en la discografía de Led Zeppelin se titula de forma homónima. Lanzado al mercado el 12 de enero de 1969 por el sello Atlantic Records, fue producido por Jimmy Page, el guitarrista y fundador de Led Zeppelin.
El álbum fue grabado entre septiembre y octubre del año anterior en los londinenses Olympic Studios, cuando la banda acababa de comenzar a rodar.
El contenido lo conforman temas originales de la banda, producto de sus primeros ensayos, junto a versiones de temas clásicos de blues moderno.
Las horas de estudio fueron pagadas por Jimmy Page, el líder del grupo y Peter Grant, su manager, ya que la banda aún no tenía firmado contrato con ninguna discográfica.
Page compaginó la producción del álbum con la interpretación de los instrumentos, uniéndose a Robert Plant (el cantante de Led Zeppelin), John Paul Jones y John Bonham.
La mítica portada del LP mostraba una imagen del dirigible alemán Hindenburg, destruido a causa de un incendio cuando aterrizaba en Nueva Jersey el 6 de mayo de 1937.
Led Zeppelin incluyó en su debut una mezcla de blues y rock, con los emergentes sonidos del hard rock y resultó ser un éxito comercial, alcanzando el puesto número 10 en la lista de Billboard en Estados Unidos
El único sencillo extraído de este álbum debut de Led Zeppelin fue el titulado "Good Times Bad Times", un tema muy comercial pero que raras veces fue interpretado por la banda en sus directos.
La mayoría de los temas tenía una duración más larga de lo que era norma habitual para su emisión en las radios comerciales y Page se negó a recortarlas, por lo que no editaron más sencillos que "Good Times Bad Times".
