Nevermind es un álbum de Nirvana, publicado en 1991 por DGC. El disco incluye 12 canciones, entre ellas «Smells Like Teen Spirit», «In Bloom», «Come As You Are» y «Breed».

"Nevermind" es el segundo título en la discografía de Nirvana, la banda estadounidense creada en Aberdeen, Washington, en 1987. Fue lanzado el 24 de septiembre de 1991 por el sello DGC Records y es el primer trabajo que cuenta con Dave Grohl en la batería.La producción de "Nevermind" corrió a cargo del estadounidense Butch Vig (conocido como Nevermind Man), quien consiguió pulir el estilo musical de la banda y adaptar sus canciones a los estándares de las emisoras de radio.
Las grabaciones se realizaron en los estudios Sound City Studios de California y en los Smart Studios de Madison, Wisconsin a mediados de 1991.
El álbum fue escrito principalmente por el líder de Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, con temas que tratan asuntos como el sexo, la frustración, la lucha antisistema o amores problemáticos inspirados en la propia experiencia de Cobain.
Ofrece una rica variedad musical y, estando considerado como un álbum referente del grunge, incluye también baladas acústicas y temas de hard rock. Cobain confesó que contó con influencias de otros grupos, como Pixies, REM, Smithereens y Melvins.
El éxito comercial del álbum "Nevermind" fue inmediato y estuvo sustentado por las importantes rotaciones de sus vídeos en la MTV. El álbum alcanzó el primer puesto en la lista Billboard 200 en Estados Unidos y su sencillo "Smells Like Teen Spirit" se colocó también entre los primeros puestos de las listas de sencillos.
Gracias a "Nevermind", Nirvana consiguió tres nominaciones a los premios Grammy, incluido el premio al Mejor Álbum de Música Alternativa.
"Nevermind" obtuvo unos registros de ventas que superaron los 30 millones, siendo uno de los más vendidos de la historia, y Nirvana puso en lugar preferente el grunge y el rock alternativo.
En la portada del álbum "Nevermind" aparece la imagen de un bebé nadando en una piscina hacia un billete de un dólar que aparece colgando de un anzuelo. La idea se le ocurrió a Cobain mientras veía en televisión un programa que hablaba de partos en el agua.
La instantánea la tomó el fotógrafo Kirk Weddle en una piscina para bebés y entre las tomas realizadas, seleccionaron una fotografía de Spencer Elden, un bebé de cuatro meses e hijo de un amigo de Weddle. Surgió la que posiblemente sea la portada más reconocible de la industria musical.
La imagen de la portada ha sido cuestión de controversia judicial, con varias demandas presentadas contra los miembros de Nirvana y sus herederos por parte de Spencer Elden, quien alegó que posó sin que sus padres recibieran ninguna compensación por ello.
El primer sencillo de "Nevermind" fue el titulado "Smells Like Teen Spirit", lanzado como sencillo principal del álbum el 10 de septiembre de 1991. El tema se convirtió en un éxito en todo el mundo y está considerada como una de las mejores canciones de la historia y la que catapultó a Nirvana a la cima de la fama.
El vídeo fue dirigido por el realizador Samuel Bayer. Grabado el 17 de agosto de 1991, nos muestra a los miembros de la banda tocando en una reunión en el gimnasio de una escuela de secundaria ante un grupo de estudiantes, una mezcla de jóvenes desganados y anarquistas.
El vídeo de "Smells Like Teen Spirit" se hizo tan popular que la MTV comenzó a incorporarlo en sus rotaciones en los horarios de máxima audiencia, subiendo la popularidad de la banda como la espuma.
El segundo sencillo se titula "Come as You Are" (Ven como eres) y fue lanzado el 2 de marzo de 1992. Escrita por Kurt Cobain, la canción supuestamente trata sobre la heroína, con la que Cobain batallaba en el momento de la composición del tema.
"Lithium" se lanzó como tercer sencillo de "Nevermind" el 19 de julio de 1992, alcanzando el puesto 64 en la lista Billboard Hot 100 en Estados Unidos y el 11 en las listas de británicas de éxitos.
El videoclip promocional fue dirigido por el realizador Kevin Kerslake a base de una recopilación de imágenes de la banda actuando en directo en un concierto celebrado el 31 de octubre de 1991 en Seattle.
La letra, escrita por el vocalista de Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, habla de la religión y del consuelo que es posible que algunas personas encuentren en ella.
El cuarto y último sencillo del álbum "Nevermind" fue lanzado el 30 de noviembre de 1992 bajo el título de "In Bloom", aunque no se publicó como tal sencillo en Estados Unidos. Pese a ello, el tema tuvo gran éxito a nivel internacional, principalmente en Europa.
En 2011, la revista Rolling Stone realizó una lista de las 500 Mejores Canciones de la Historia, situando la canción "In Bloom" en el puesto 415. Courtney Love, la viuda de Kurt Cobain, afirmó que el tema debería haber salido como sencillo principal del álbum.
Se publicaron dos vídeos de "In Bloom", el oficial, dirigido por el realizador estadounidense Kevin Kerslake sobre una ocurrencia de Cobain de mostrar una parodia de las actuaciones musicales de los programas de variedades de los 60.
El vídeo alternativo fue dirigido por el realizador Steve Brown y fue grabado en Nueva York en abril de 1990. En él podemos ver a la banda paseando por la Gran Manzana, junto a escenas de ensayos y partes de su actuación en directo en Nueva Jersey el 26 de abril de ese mismo año.
