Sobre el álbum
"Blizzard of Ozz" es el primer álbum en la discografía de Ozzy Osbourne. Publicado el 12 de septiembre de 1980 en Reino Unido y el 27 de marzo de 1981 en Estados Unidos, contó con la producción de Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake y el propio Osbourne.Este fue el primer trabajo de Ozzy Osbourne tras su abrupta salida de la banda Black Sabbath y contó con la colaboración del guitarrista Randy Rhoads, anterior miembro de Quiet Riot.
La mayor parte de los temas de este álbum debut de Ozzy Osbourne fueron compuestos por el guitarrista Randy Rhoads, el bajista Bob Daisley y el propio cantante en un pueblo de Gales.
Mientras se grababa el álbum, todos pensaban que este iría firmado como "The Blizzard of Ozz", el nombre que habían pensado para la banda. Sin embargo, la portada llevó finalmente el nombre del cantante en letras grandes, lo que lo convirtió de facto en el primer disco en solitario de Ozzy Osbourne, con gran disgusto de sus compañeros.
El tema "Crazy Train" se lanzó como primer sencillo del álbum en septiembre de 1980. La canción fue escrita por Osbourne, Randy Rhoads y Bob Daisley y las letras hablan del tema de la Guerra Fría y el miedo que por aquella época había a la aniquilación mutua.
"Crazy Train" pronto se convirtió en una de las más reconocibles de Osbourne y contiene uno de los mejores solos de guitarra de la historia. En 2009, VH1 la situó en el puesto 23 de su lista de Mejores Canciones de hard rock de toda la historia, el puesto más alto conseguido por un solista.
El segundo sencillo de este primer álbum de Osbourne fue "Mr. Crowley", grabado entre el 22 de marzo y el 19 de abril de 1980 pero que no fue lanzado al mercado como sencillo hasta un año más tarde, sólo en Estados Unidos.
La canción estaba inspirada en un libro sobre la vida de Aleister Crowley, un ocultista y mago ceremonial británico que a principios del siglo XX fundó la religión thelemita.
