Lanzado en 1970, un mes después de que Paul McCartney anunciara la disolución de The Beatles, Let It Be es el duodécimo y último álbum de estudio de la banda. Es una obra nacida del conflicto y la desintegración. Grabado más de un año antes de su lanzamiento, durante las tensas sesiones del proyecto "Get Back", el álbum fue un intento de volver a las raíces del rock and roll y a la grabación en directo en el estudio. Contexto: el proyecto "Get Back"

A principios de 1969, la banda estaba fracturada. Para intentar recuperar la camaradería de sus inicios, McCartney propuso el proyecto "Get Back": ensayar y grabar un nuevo álbum sin los artificios del estudio, como si estuvieran tocando en directo. El proceso fue filmado para un documental, lo que añadió aún más presión y expuso las profundas divisiones entre los miembros. Las sesiones, que tuvieron lugar en los fríos estudios de Twickenham y más tarde en la sede de Apple, fueron tensas y poco productivas, con George Harrison llegando a abandonar la banda temporalmente.

El clímax del proyecto fue el famoso concierto en la azotea de las oficinas de Apple en Savile Row, el 30 de enero de 1969, que sería la última actuación pública de The Beatles.
