El álbum Dark Horse, de 1974, es uno de los trabajos más problemáticos y, a la vez, fascinantes de la carrera de George Harrison. Grabado en un período de crisis personal y vocal (Harrison sufría de laringitis), el disco fue recibido con críticas tibias en su momento, pero una escucha atenta revela una obra con un encanto crudo y una honestidad innegable.
La voz rasgada y forzada de Harrison es la característica más distintiva del álbum. Aunque objetivamente no está en su mejor momento, esta crudeza vocal añade una capa de vulnerabilidad y alma a las canciones, especialmente en temas de R&B y soul como "Far East Man", coescrita con Ron Wood. El álbum tiene un sonido único en su discografía.
El disco contiene la canción que le da título, "Dark Horse", donde Harrison se defiende de las críticas y reivindica su capacidad de sorprender.
