Sobre el álbum
El álbum homónimo que inaugura la discografía de Lionel Richie en solitario es una de las transiciones más exitosas y fluidas de la historia del pop. Lanzado en 1982, mientras todavía era formalmente miembro de la legendaria banda de funk y soul The Commodores, este disco estableció de inmediato a Lionel Richie como una superestrella por derecho propio. Por lo tanto, es la perfecta declaración de independencia de un compositor y cantante en la cima de su inspiración.
En primer lugar, el álbum perfecciona el sonido que él mismo había ayudado a popularizar en sus últimos años con su banda: una exquisita mezcla de R&B, soul y balada "adult contemporary".
