Después del arrollador éxito de su regreso, la discografía de Modern Talking continuó en 1999 con "Alone", el primer álbum con material completamente nuevo en más de una década. Este trabajo era la prueba de fuego para el dúo: demostrar que podían seguir creando éxitos y no solo vivir de su glorioso pasado. Por consiguiente, el disco sigue la senda del sonido renovado que presentaron en "Back for Good".
El álbum es una colección de temas Euro-dance y baladas pop, con la inconfundible firma de Dieter Bohlen en la composición.
