El tercer álbum internacional del grupo, Idea, muestra a unos Bee Gees en un estado de gracia creativo absoluto, expandiendo las fronteras de su pop barroco. En este disco de 1968, la banda combina de manera magistral baladas de una belleza sobrecogedora con incursiones en el rock psicodélico y el pop más enérgico. De este modo, el trabajo presenta una increíble diversidad estilística, pero manteniendo siempre una coherencia gracias a sus inconfundibles armonías vocales.
Además, el álbum incluye dos de sus canciones más queridas de su primera etapa: la emotiva "I've Gotta Get a Message to You" y la optimista "I Started a Joke".
