El tercer álbum de la banda estadounidense Green Day lleva por título "Dookie" y fue lanzado el 1 de febrero de 1994 bajo el sello Reprise Records, con producción de Rob Cavallo. La mayor parte de los temas del álbum fue compuesta por el vocalista y líder de la banda, Billie Joe Armstrong, y está basado en sus experiencias personales, con temas relacionados con la ansiedad, la sexualidad el aburrimiento o los antiguos amores.
"Dookie" supuso que Green Day ganara su primer premio Grammy como Mejor Album Alternativo en 1995 y el disco alcanzó el segundo puesto en las listas estadounidenses, estando considerado como uno de los principales exponentes del punk rock, vendiendo más de 20 millones de copias y disparando la popularidad de Green Day por todo el mundo.
El título del álbum, "Dookie" (algo así como "diarrea") lo adoptaron de las largas giras y la mala alimentación, que les provocaba continuas molestias estomacales. En la portada del disco se muestra una imagen caricaturizada de una bombardeo con aviones, obra de Richie Bucher. En la contraportada se mostraba un juguete de peluche de Barrio Sésamo.
El primer sencillo, "Longview", fue su primer número uno en las listas estadounidenses de rock, con un vídeo dirigido por el realizador Mark Kohr, colaborador de la banda en numerosos vídeos. Las letras tratan del aburrimiento, de no hacer nada más que ver pasar la vida sin ningún aliciente.
"Basket Case" es el segundo tema extraído del álbum y se mantuvo durante cinco semanas en lo más alto de la lista Billboard de canciones alternativas. Compuesta por Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt y Tré Cool, fue acompañada por un vídeo dirigido por Mark Kohr y grabado en un antiguo centro de atención mental de California. El centro había sido ya abandonado, pero la banda encontró entre sus paredes rastros de un pasado que les inspiró esta canción que trata sobre la lucha contra la ansiedad. El vídeo fue nominado para nueve premios MTV Video Music Awards en 1995, aunque finalmente no se llevó ninguno de los galardones.
Otros sencillos que se lanzaron de este álbum fueron "Welcome to Paradise", "When I Come Around" y "She".
