Sobre el álbum
El álbum Forever Blue, de 1995, es, sin lugar a dudas, la obra más desgarradora, oscura y emocionalmente cruda de la carrera de Chris Isaak. Este disco, de hecho, fue compuesto íntegramente tras una dolorosa ruptura sentimental. Por lo tanto, cada una de sus canciones es un capítulo de esta historia de desamor, desde la negación y la ira hasta la más profunda tristeza y la aceptación final.
En consecuencia, el álbum es de una coherencia temática y sonora sobrecogedora. La producción de Erik Jacobsen abandona cualquier atisbo de optimismo para crear una atmósfera nocturna, íntima y profundamente melancólica. Como resultado, la voz de Chris Isaak suena más vulnerable y rota que nunca, transmitiendo un dolor que se siente absolutamente real.
Además, el disco contiene algunas de sus mejores composiciones. "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing", con su ritmo amenazante y su aire de blues-rock, se convertiría en un clásico gracias a su inclusión en la película 'Eyes Wide Shut' de Stanley Kubrick. Por otro lado, la canción que da título al disco, "Forever Blue", es una balada de una belleza desoladora.
Este trabajo también marca la última colaboración con el guitarrista James Calvin Wilsey, cuyo sonido había sido fundamental en su carrera. En definitiva, 'Forever Blue' es una obra maestra de la tristeza, un álbum catártico que transforma el sufrimiento personal en arte universal y atemporal. Es, para muchos, su mejor disco.
