Imagine es un álbum de John Lennon, publicado en 1971 por Apple Records. El disco incluye 10 canciones, entre ellas «Imagine», «Crippled Inside», «Jealous Guy» y «It´s So Hard».
Sobre el álbum
Lanzado en 1971, "Imagine" está considerado como el mejor trabajo de John Lennon en solitario y el más conocido por el público. Contó con la participación de George Harrison, quien fue invitado por Lennon a colaborar con su guitarra en el mismo, tras una sesión de improvisación que los dos celebraron en Nueva York.El álbum fue finalmente grabado en los estudios Ascot Sound Studios, aunque parte del material también fue registrado en los Abbey Road Studios de Londres. Lennon contó con la colaboración de Phil Spector en las tareas de producción.
Junto a Lennon, Yoko y Harrison, también participaren en las grabaciones el teclista británico Nicky Hopkins y los baterías Alan White y Jim Keltner, quienes habían participado en la banda de Apple Badfinger. Las grabaciones comenzaron en 24 de mayo en los estudios Ascot, con la presentación del que sería el tema principal del álbum, la canción "Imagine".
En julio, John Lennon y Yoko Ono viajaron a Nueva York para continuar con las grabaciones en los estudios Record Plant, donde parte de los instrumentos volvió a ser grabada y donde se agregaron cuerdas y saxofón. De las sesiones de grabación se documentó una película, "Working Class Hero", en la que se mostraba la evolución de algunas de las canciones. Algunas de las escenas de dicho documental fueron también difundidas en la película de 1988 "Imagine: John Lennon".
Los temas fueron escritos en una fase de desencuentro entre John Lennon y su compañero en The Beatles, Paul McCartney. Un año antes los cuatro de Liverpool habían desecho su banda y Lennon había creado para este álbum un tema titulado "How Do You Sleep?" (¿Cómo duermes?), en el que mostraba su malestar por los ataques personales de McCartney contra Lennon y Yoko Ono.
El tema "Imagine" se convirtió en todo un himno y en la canción más conocida de Lennon. Escrita como una petición de paz, se grabó un vídeo que se inicia con Lennon acercándose a su casa a través de la niebla. Posteriormente se puede ver al cantante sentado ante un piano blanco en una habitación igualmente blanca y con escasa iluminación. Yoko Ono va abriendo las persianas para que penetre la luz en la estancia mientras se va escuchando el tema, para terminar Yoko sentada junto a John, mirándose y besándose.
