Laundry Service (publicado como "Servicio de Lavandería" en Hispanoamérica), lanzado en 2001, es el quinto álbum de estudio de Shakira y su primer álbum bilingüe, diseñado para su crossover al mercado anglosajón. Tras conquistar el mundo de habla hispana, Shakira se enfrentó al desafío de traducir su estilo único para una audiencia global. El resultado es un álbum vibrante y ecléctico que mezcla su característico pop-rock con influencias de dance-pop, tango, música andina y rock. El proceso de grabación
Después del éxito de "¿Dónde están los ladrones?" y su aclamado "MTV Unplugged", el siguiente paso lógico para Shakira era el mercado en inglés. Para ello, se mudó a Miami y comenzó a trabajar intensamente en su inglés, con la ayuda de su amiga y mentora, Gloria Estefan, quien la ayudó a traducir algunas de sus letras. El proceso de composición y grabación, que tuvo lugar principalmente en estudios de las Bahamas, fue un esfuerzo por crear un sonido que fuera universalmente atractivo sin perder su identidad latina y rockera.
Shakira asumió el rol de productora principal, trabajando con colaboradores de confianza como Tim Mitchell y Lester Mendez para crear un sonido que fusionara instrumentos orgánicos con elementos de pop más pulidos.

Juicio de la crítica
