Lanzado en 1975, Dressed to Kill es el tercer álbum de estudio de Kiss. Grabado a toda prisa entre fechas de su gira, este disco marca un retorno al sonido más melódico y de rock and roll de su debut, pero manteniendo la crudeza de "Hotter Than Hell". Cómo se grabó
Tras dos fracasos comerciales, el sello Casablanca Records estaba al borde de la quiebra. El presidente del sello, Neil Bogart, decidió tomar las riendas y coproducir el tercer álbum de la banda él mismo. La grabación fue apresurada, ya que la banda fue sacada de la carretera para grabar rápidamente en los Electric Lady Studios de Nueva York. La falta de material nuevo obligó a la banda a incluir canciones que habían escrito en sus primeros años, antes incluso de la formación de Kiss. Esta urgencia se refleja en un sonido muy directo y sin adornos.
Sonido y estilo
El sonido de "Dressed to Kill" es una mezcla de hard rock y rock and roll de los 70. Es menos pesado que "Hotter Than Hell" y más melódico. Las canciones son más cortas y directas, con un claro enfoque en los estribillos pegadizos. Escrita por Stanley y Simmons a petición expresa de Neil Bogart, que exigía un "himno del rock", la canción se convirtió en un éxito moderado en su versión de estudio, pero fue su versión en directo en "Alive!" la que la transformó en un fenómeno mundial.
La imagen del álbum
La portada del álbum es otra de las más icónicas de la banda. Muestra a los cuatro miembros vestidos con elegantes trajes de negocios, pero con sus caras completamente maquilladas, creando un contraste surrealista. La imagen fue tomada en una esquina de la Octava Avenida en Nueva York. Curiosamente, con la excepción de Peter Criss, ninguno de los trajes era de la banda; pertenecían a su mánager, Bill Aucoin.
