"Rock and Roll Over" es un álbum de hard rock y rock and roll sin concesiones, diseñado para capturar la energía visceral de la banda en directo. Grabación y contexto
Después de la experiencia intensiva y a menudo conflictiva de grabar "Destroyer" con Bob Ezrin, Kiss quería recuperar el control y volver a un sonido más básico. Para ello, contrataron al legendario ingeniero Eddie Kramer, famoso por su trabajo con Jimi Hendrix y Led Zeppelin. La grabación tuvo lugar en el "Nanuet Star Theatre", un teatro abandonado en Nueva York, para capturar un sonido de batería más ambiental y una sensación de directo. Esta decisión fue clave para lograr el sonido orgánico y potente del disco.
Estilo y propuesta sonora
El sonido de "Rock and Roll Over" es puro hard rock de los 70. Es menos pulido que "Destroyer", con un sonido de guitarra más afilado y una producción más directa. El álbum está lleno de riffs de guitarra pegadizos, estribillos coreables y la energía característica de la banda. Es el sonido de los cuatro miembros tocando juntos en una sala, con una mínima postproducción. Líricamente, el álbum vuelve a los temas clásicos del rock: el sexo, el amor y la fiesta.
Repaso a las canciones
El álbum está repleto de clásicos. "I Want You" abre el disco con un riff épico. El sencillo principal, la balada acústica "Hard Luck Woman", cantada por Peter Criss, fue escrita originalmente por Paul Stanley para Rod Stewart, lo que explica su aire de folk-rock.
