"Kiss" es el primer álbum de la discografía de Kiss. Lanzado el 18 de febrero de 1974 con material escrito por Gene Simmons y Paul Stanley cuando ambos estaban en la banda Wicked Lester, antes de embarcarse en Kiss.
El tema "Firehouse" fue escrito por Paul Stanley mientras asistía a clases en el High School of Music & Art, en Nueva York.
El disco fue grabado en los estudios Bell Sound Studios de Nueva York y en el lanzamiento inicial no se incluía el tema "Kissin' Time", aunque sí se ha incorporado en todas las reediciones posteriores.
En la portada del álbum podemos ver a los miembros de Kiss posando sobre un fondo negro, al estilo de lo que hicieron los Beatles con su álbum "With the Beatles" en 1963.
Los cuatro miembros aparecían con maquillajes en sus rostros, algunos hechos por ellos mismos. El único maquillado profesionalmente fue Criss, y eso se aprecia en la imagen de la portada, en la que su pintura muestra diferencias con las de los demás.
El álbum registró unas ventas de cerca de 75.000 copias en los días posteriores a su lanzamiento, un dato nada desdeñable, puesto que no habían lanzado ningún sencillo promocional hasta entonces. El 8 de junio de 1977 ya habían superado el medio millón de copias vendidas y se hicieron acreedores de un disco de oro.
Finalmente fueron tres los sencillos que Kiss extrajo de este su álbum debut: "Nothin' to Lose" (18 de febrero de 1974), "Kissin' Time" (10 de mayo de 1974) y "Strutter" (10 de agosto de 1974).
"Kissin' Time" fue el primer sencillo de la banda Kiss en entrar en las listas. Para ello, tuvieron que reelaborar las letras, ya que los productores y la discográfica consideraron que las originales no se adaptaba bien al estilo que pretendían vender de Kiss.
