Sobre el álbum
La discografía de Europe arranca de manera oficial con este álbum homónimo de 1983, una obra que presentó al mundo a una joven banda sueca con un talento y una ambición extraordinarios. Este primer trabajo es el resultado de haber ganado un concurso de talentos en su país natal, cuyo premio era la grabación de un disco. Es el sonido de un grupo que ya mostraba un potencial enorme.
El sonido del álbum está profundamente influenciado por el hard rock y la New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) de bandas como Thin Lizzy, UFO o Deep Purple. La producción es cruda y directa, con un gran protagonismo de la espectacular guitarra de un jovencísimo John Norum.
El álbum ya presenta la poderosa y melódica voz de Joey Tempest, quien también se revela como un compositor de un gran talento. Canciones como "Seven Doors Hotel" se convirtieron en éxitos en Japón, lo que les dio su primera experiencia de fama internacional.
Aunque todavía estaban lejos del sonido pulido que los haría mundialmente famosos, su debut es un trabajo fundamental. Es una excelente colección de hard rock de la vieja escuela, el primer capítulo de la historia de la banda de rock más importante de la historia de Suecia.
