Dentro de la extensa discografía de David Bowie, el álbum "Tonight" es, a menudo, visto como una continuación apresurada y menos inspirada de su exitoso "Let's Dance". Presionado por mantener el éxito masivo, Bowie entrega un disco que sigue una fórmula similar de pop comercial, pero con resultados desiguales. Por consiguiente, el álbum combina nuevas composiciones con versiones de canciones antiguas de su amigo Iggy Pop, como "Neighborhood Threat" o la propia "Tonight".
